Dr. Charles West attended Washington and Jefferson College where he was a member of both the track and football teams. He became the first African American quarterback to play in the Rose Bowl. West was drafted by the Akron Pros professional football team, but instead went to medical school at Howard University. He opened his first family practice in Alexandria and coached football at Parker-Gray High School.
